Barracuda Web Application Firewall

Barracuda web application firewall

The Barracuda Web Application Firewall distributes load across diverse links with high-speed MPLS, T1, and T3 lines, as well as low-cost DSL and cable connections from multiple ISPs. It scales bandwidth and distributes traffic across links based on business policies, cost, and key performance metrics.

Link availability is monitored using multiple protocols and metrics like DNS, Ping and HTTP. If it detects a link failure, the failed link is removed from link balancing. When a failed link becomes available again, it detects and resumes again. If a link fails, existing sessions on that link will be disconnected. Clients connected to the failed link can reconnect to their destination using another available link. During link failover the Barracuda Web Application Firewall maintains application traffic and VPN priorities.

  • Supports Layer 2 VLANs.
  • High Availability configurations are supported where two Barracuda Web Application Firewalls are deployed as an active-passive pair.
  • Automatically tracks the IP addresses of each client from source and corresponding server.
  • Includes software that can automatically prioritize critical Internet applications.
  • Can be administered through an SSL-secured web interface.
  • Incoming and outgoing network traffic balancing across multiple Internet links.
  • Quality of Service (QoS) is provided for Internet applications.

These features are easy-to-use Web user interface which allows administrators to define, manage and control bandwidth settings across the network. It also provides optimal access to multiple high speed connections while automatic failover ensures reliable connectivity to any of the available Internet links.

For instance, priority can be assigned to web browsing and email while giving applications and media streaming a lower priority. Site-to-site VPN tunnels can be created between two Barracuda Web Application Firewalls or between a Barracuda Web Application Firewall and another device that supports IPsec. Networks connected via a tunnel communicate as if they are on the same network. In case the primary link fails site-to-site VPN tunnel automatically turns the failover link to a secondary link.

It selects the best link to handle Internet traffic by looking into saturation, availability, latency, and performance. It offers firewall functions to maximize the number of active Internet connections by offering firewall features such as network address translation (NAT), 1:1 NAT, and port forwarding to increase the availability of Internet links to the network without the cost of more bandwidth.

The Barracuda Load Balancer ADC provides maximum flexibility for organizations looking to build highly secure and scalable application infrastructure. Transparent deployment ensures rapid installation with minimal disruptions to existing network infrastructure. Automatic Internet link monitoring and failover prevents internet downtime and lost employee productivity during ISP outages. As the data traffic is growing exponentially, the organization need continuous connectivity. The Barracuda Web Application Firewall deploys transparency in front of legacy firewalls.
